Job postings as competitive intelligence: what to look for

Three enterprise sales roles posted in a week isn't a coincidence. It's a signal. Here's how to read hiring patterns before they become announcements.

Companies announce strategy months after they start hiring for it. The careers page is where the plan shows up first.

Patterns worth noticing

  • Several enterprise account executives at once: a move upmarket, usually with SSO and compliance features to follow.
  • A first head of partnerships or channel: a push into integrations or resellers.
  • Roles in a new region: international expansion, often with localised pricing.
  • Solutions engineers and implementation roles: bigger, more complex deals.
  • A cluster of research or infra roles: a bet on their own models instead of wrappers.

One posting is noise, three is a pattern

Single roles open and close all the time. What matters is a cluster: several related roles in a short window, or a role that has never existed at the company before.

Pair it with other pages

Hiring signals get much stronger next to a change elsewhere. Enterprise AEs plus a new 'Contact sales' tier on the pricing page is a clear story.

Check careers pages weekly at minimum, and keep a running log. The pattern is usually obvious in hindsight; the goal is to see it while it's still forming.
